Life
in Charlestown
Charlestown is probably one of the most visited
neighborhoods of Boston. Anyone who walks the Freedom Trail,
visits the USS Constitution, or climbs to the top of Bunker
Hill, is a friend of Charlestown.
By day, tourists flock to the historic sites,
students attend classes at the Bunker Hill Community College
and thousands of people head to work.
Charlestown is located on a peninsula (originally
called "Mishawum" by the Native Americans) just
northwest of Downtown Boston. It is accessible from Route
1 (the Tobin Bridge), Route 93, and local roads. Charlestown
is connected to Boston's North End by the Washington Street
Bridge, which is also the route of the Freedom Trail.
Charlestown was recently home to the Navy Yard.
Since it was de-commissioned, the neighborhood has changed
as the Navy Yard has been converted to residential and office
space. Families and young professionals are joining residents
who have called Charlestown home for generations. Charlestown
is extremely well located - both the waterfront and downtown
business district are an easy walk.
